6. Summary and Suggestions

September 28, 2019

Purposes of Practicum
“Revitalizing Teacher Education”  is one of the priority areas in achieving quality education for the region. In order to fulfill this mandate, The SEAMEO secretariat has initiated a project titled SEA – Teacher Project. The SEA Teacher Project or the Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia is a project that aims to provide opportunity for pre-service student teachers from universities in Southeast Asia to have teaching experiences (practicum) in schools in other countries in Southeast Asia.
Specially, the aims of The SEA – Teacher Project are :
to enable pre-service student teachers to develop their teaching skills and pedagogy
to encourage the pre-service student teacher, to practice their English skills,
to allow the pre-service student teachers to gain a teaching abilities and a broad view of education according to the subject.

I also have the same goals as this program, yeay.

Procedures of Practicum
The program period that I applied for was one month, which began on 4 August 2019 until 1 September 2019. One month is divided into several week's activities include observation, teaching assistant, teaching practice, evaluation and reflection. The host universities will provide mentors to supervise and monitor the student teacher throughout the practicum period. Schools where practicum provides co-operating teaching to guide pre-service teachers in practicums in schools. But before that, in Indonesia I also had procedures, which were to make a selection, there are teaching videos and interviews. Next, was an interview from Thailand and a training blog. Also, some briefing such as microteaching in English.

Outcomes of Practicum
The outcomes of this practicum program that I get are :
Get a lot of knowledge, especially physics, and how to teach and the media. Open my horizons about the international world, especially in education Give me the opportunity to increase my English skills Know and can apply good Thai culture. For example the teacher who respects his teacher very much. Wow, very good

The Challenges of Practicum
While joining this program I found challenges in the language of the language they're often used Thai in every condition. They often talk to me using Thai and I just say "what are you talking about?, sorry I don't understand". Likewise, when in class, I am very grateful because teachers often help me translate what they mean and what I mean to them. Many times I also use the help of google translate to help me communicate.

Overall Impression
Regarding impressions of this program, honestly, I am very speechless. I am very grateful to participate in this program many things that I can both experience and science. About my memory in Thailand, can be seen in my diary!. One word for this program's impression is "Amazing!!

Suggestion for Future Improvement
I hope some other countries can also join this program. Indicators, assessments, program indicators, and schedules can be more detailed. Behind it all, this program is very good, yay.. Thankyou everyone..

5. Teaching Practice

September 28, 2019

1.  Procedures of teaching
The things I prepared before doing the teaching practice, include:
  • The first week I made observations in class. I observed about how to teach the teacher, class atmosphere, and others.
  • The second week I did assistant teaching with the class teacher (teacher paint) in several classes. This week is discussing free fall. We did a practicum about proving the theory.
  • The third and fourth week I do practice teaching
  • Before teaching practice, I consulted with the class teacher, namely Teacher paint (Grade 10/1 and Grade 10/2) and Teacher Eh (Grade 10/3) to determine the learning topics and methods. I prepare lesson plans and media to support my learning. Unfortunately the media for vectors is not available so I only use projectors, whiteboards, and worksheets. My schedule for teaching has been distributed by Teacher Adam in only three classes, scheduled for Wednesday at 7 (1.30-2.20 PM) at Grade 10/1, Thursday at 1 (8.30-9.20 AM) at 10/3 grade, and Thursday at 9th (3.10-4.00 PM) at Grade 10/2.

After some preparation, I did the teaching practice on schedule. Wah, I am very nervous but I enjoy!

2.Time Management and Organizing Actvities
To time management I refer to the lesson plan that I have prepared before. My class is only one hour of learning (50 minutes). That time I divided the opening, core, and closing of one hour of learning. For more details, see my lesson plan below this page.

In organizing activities I also refer to the lesson plan. There I teach with each of the stages that I have planned in the learning activities in the lesson plan. I also supervise the class as during the discussion, I ask about the material and re-explain the material if there are students who do not understand.

3.  Problem Solving
Teaching in class is a challenge for me. I got a standard program class where students and teachers used to communicate in Thai language only. There are a few tips to make it easier to teach and make students understand.
"Don't teach too much material in one hour of learning, students will be confused and bored," said Teacher Paint.
"Don't be too fast to explain the material and use more media so students understand better, " said Mrs. Maria, my supervisor.

4. Classroom Management
When teaching, I control the class by using agreements with students such as to be more focused, active in asking questions and answering, and if left the classroom must have permission. In addition, I also pay attention to students who are less focused by asking questions related to the material so that it is more focused.

4. Observation On Teacher

September 28, 2019

in order to understand the class atmosphere, I did observations in several classes especially in physics class
  • Planning for teaching
Before learning, the teacher prepares lesson plans that are appropriate to the topic to be studied
  • Preparing lesson and materials
The teacher must understand the material and the flow that will be presented. Besides that, supporting materials in learning activities are prepared.
  • Teaching in class
after learning preparation, the teacher enters the class to begin learning. learning activities, in the classroom include :
 Greetings

 Checking presence
 Introduction of material
 Examples of questions and discussion
 Closing

Learning physics in grade 10/3 by Teacher Eh

  • Measurement and Evaluation
Teachers often give worksheets, examinations, homework to find out students' understanding of the topic. There are also midterm and end of semester tests as measurement and evaluation.

3. Teaching Plan

September 28, 2019

  • Curriculum
The curriculum used in VRU Demontration schools is based on the Core Curriculum for Basic Education B.E 2551 (A.D. 2008), from the Ministry of Education in Thailand. This curriculum uses Thai, but there is also English.

  •  Teaching Plan Related To My Major
worksheet and media
I and Class Teacher have to prepare a lesson plan before teaching in class. Our lesson plan contains a draft of the learning flow, materials, worksheets, and so on

The lesson plan that I made is aimed at grade 10, you can see at here

Daily Ceremony

1.       Teaching Method
The teachers in Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University Demonstration school use Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) as their teaching method especially in physics class. The teacher explains the material interactively so students can understand easily. Sometimes, teacher use TCL (Teacher center Learning) combine with STL (Student Center Learning).

The teacher gives an explanation in front of the class for students. After that, The teacher gives worksheet to take reflection and discussion with him. Teacher explains every topic clearly with Thai Language and uses the teaching media on the board and the source from the book. Sometimes students are invited to practicum in The laboratory.

Vru Demonstrations School held a flag ceremony every morning (before class activities begin). here it is known that discipline is very important. Students and teachers must come early and abide by every rule. There is a penalty for violating it. That's an example of good habits that can be applied.

2.      Learning Materials and Innovation
At VRU Demonstration School has a lot of support in learning. One of the facilities is the existence of a smartboard that can be connected to a computer to display animation or video. Teachers can use a smartboard to explain lessons more easily and clearly.

3.      Sources of Learning and Technology
The source of learning at VRU Demonstration School are :The teachers, books, internet, worksheet, and others
The learning book
The Technology of teaching that the teacher use at VRU Demonstration School are :Smartboard, microphone, speaker and others

4.      Authentic Assessment
The assessment at the VRU Demonstration School is by giving an exam containing the questions. The assessment is used to determine how far students understand the material. exams in each semester consist of daily tests, midterms, and final semester exams.
